Get us Out!

For those of you that know me well, you know I am nothing if not goal oriented. I put my mind to a task and I stop at nothing to complete it. Hey, people in Mexico, laughing? STOP IT. I have lots of goals.
Yesterday's goal was to get the breakfast dishes out of the sink sometime before the dinner dishes went in.

And Sunday's goal was donuts.

We find that we need a schedule. We need to have something to do each and every day. Downtime with Lois just does not work. The weekends are especially long because she doesn't have St. Agnes, her granddaughter is working, and we would prefer to relax by reading a book or by doing various projects around the house. I'm very, very slowly getting the idea that weekends are not the time I need to spend relaxing. We need to relax on Wednesday and Thursday so that we will be prepared for Saturday and Sunday. Someday we will get it. But in the meantime Lois gets bored on the weekends.

One of the ways we combat boredom is outings! Outings all the time!

My latest issue of Saveur gave me a fantastic idea for an outing. They wrote about a little chain of donut shops in Kalamazoo, Michigan that have 55 different flavors of donuts. 55! And Kalamazoo is only an hour and a half from here, perfect day trip material.

So on Sunday morning, we went to Mass and we packed up for Kalamazoo.
We went to our stomach's version of Mass - Sweetwater's Donut Mill.

Some highlights of the trip:

Lunch at the Hard Times Cafe (using Restaurant.com, love that site, and please don't pay full price for a coupon, there are lots of ways to get cheap or free ones), conveniently situated across the street from the topless bar and next door to yet another random bar. We heart topless bars on Sunday.

Highlight #2 - Del's face. You see the face he is making below? That was his face all day.

Highlight #C - We listened to Time LIFE Classic Country on the way up. When "Hey Good Lookin', What You Got Cookin?" came on, Josie screamed - This is my song! And Elia screamed - We LOVE Hank Williams!
Yes. I am not making it up.
Who doesn't love Hank Williams?

Highlight #420
Mike and Lois had the doobie flavored donuts.

With no kids at school, taking Wed. and Thurs. "off" should be a bit easier, no?
I hear you, though, Jer's days off are not usually Sat. and Sun. and that's when L. is off school and I am in "chill out" mode. We are still trying to get the hang of that...and I need to overcome my crankiness when Sunday ends up being MORE work than the rest of the week because i'm hauling the kiddos to Mass alone and then dealing with the aftermath of that outing for the rest of the day.
A goal for um...sometime in the future...after India: find a parish with Sunday School!!!

find a parish with a good Sunday School - ours is not very stellar, thus they do not attend. And you get grumpy on Sunday? I thought I was the only one!
