Poetry Wednesday, Vol. 56

It was a little difficult to choose today. I was between the one I chose and September 1, 1939 by W.H. Auden. Ultimately, this one was chosen, mostly out of deference to the folks who don't particularly enjoy poetry (the Auden is kind of long). But please, click the link and read it too. It is good.

I had something deep and amazing to say about this poem, but I think you should just go read Molly's post. In real life she seems so normal, but then she breaks out this incredible writing about just what we need to be thinking about at right that very moment. It reminds me of Jen at Conversion Diary and her thoughts on seeking God's will in our lives. Wonderful reading.

Psalm

Reed Whittemore

The Lord feeds some of His prisoners better than others.
It could be said of Him that He is not a just god but an
indifferent god.
That He is not to be trusted to reward the righteous and
punish the unscrupulous.
That He maketh the poor poorer but is otherwise
undependable.

It could be said of Him that it is His school of the germane
that produced the Congressional Record.
That it is His vision of justice that gave us cost accounting.

It could be said of Him that thought we walk with Him all
the days of our lives we will never fathom Him
Because He is empty.

These are the dark images of our Lord
That make it seem needful for us to pray not unto Him
But ourselves.
But when we do that we find that indeed we are truly lost
And we rush back into the safer fold, impressed by His care
for us.

Such a good reminder of how faith in God, and in the irrational mercy of God, is truly so beyond our comprehension. Just resting in that faith, without trying to figure it all out, is what I am working on currently. Thanks so much for this, and for your friendship and kindness in general. They are a gift to me!
