Poetry Wednesday, Vol. 72

If You Have Nothing

Jessica Powers

The gesture of a gift is adequate.
If you have nothing: laurel leaf or bay,
No flower, no seed, no apple gathered late,
Do not in desperation lay
The beauty of your tears upon the clay.

No gift is proper to a Deity.
No fruit is worthy for such power to bless.
If you have nothing, gather back your sigh,
And with your hands held high, your heart held high,
Lift up your emptiness!

That's all that God requires - outselves - our unworthy selves! That way He is everything to us! Thanks for a beautiful poem!

beautiful poem Kris!

reminds me of a verse I read this morning in Isaiah.

Isaiah 26:12 - "Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us."

Merry Christmas!

That is beautiful because really that is what God wants, us in our emptiness, our brokenness. A blessed Christmas to your family.
