Speaking of a Josie and her love of language and rhyming.
When I was little my Dad's favorite cheer went something like this:
Rah, Rah, Ree!
Kick 'em in the knee!
Rah, Rah, Rass!
Kick 'em in the...... other knee!
He would always laugh, we would laugh, knowing something sort of naughty had just happened, but not quite knowing what. Ok, maybe I was the only one who didn't get it, but I think I was 15 before I figured out what the REAL ending to that cheer was. It was a revelation.
So the other day I was cheering for my kids as they did their usual shenanigans around the yard and I get to the "Kick 'em in the ......other knee!" part. Josie, my sweet little five year old Josie; stops, looks at me and says, "No, Mom. It's A$$. Kick 'em in the A$$."
Can I just say, ACK!
I tried to explain how we don't use that word, how saying the cheer wrong is what makes it so tee-hee funny, how just because something rhymes doesn't mean it's right. She looked at me like an alien and walked away. I'm pretty sure I heard her whispering, rass-a$$, rass-a$$ under her breath.
