Oh, Brother.

A few minutes ago I was listening to the thumps and screams and rolling around of two little boys playing monster in their attic bedroom. For every full bodied yell there would be an accompanying thud. For every cry-on-the-verge-of-tears, there would be a bit of quiet; no doubt the offending brother placating his hurt sibling before someone decides to tell Mama about his injuries.

A few nights ago, doing the final check before bed, Mike came down and told me to go upstairs and look at the boys. And what a sweet sight it was. There lay my two boys, surrounded by books and various Spider man toys. Deli, dressed as Spidey, laying on his brother's arm. You could tell they had fallen asleep listening to Del's new Spidey alarm clock (the one that plays the Spidey theme song, don't ya know). Mikey didn't have on pajamas, but never fear, he was wearing Spidey Undies. Do you sense a theme?

Mike, the husband, didn't grow up with a brother. I grew up with a brother, and I believe there are some pictures just like this of him and me, but I am a girl, so the dynamic is different. It has been such a treat watching these boys love each other, wrestle, play, and fight. Fight over the Spider man, fight over the swing, fight over the chalk drawing equipment, fight over the bike, fight over the dog.... do you sense another theme? and maybe the fighting is not such a treat.

These boys gladden our hearts.
We do not know what the future holds for their relationship as brothers, but we are doing our best to foster a deep love that will connect them through all the trials and joys in life. We pray they will always have a tender spot for each other, even in the midst of play (or maybe not-so play) fighting.

Brothers are the best.
