In our all too brief visit to Texas we took a sidetrip to White Sands, NM. It was incredible. We drove through the scrubby brown desert until off in the distance we saw white hills rising up out of nowhere. As we drove into the park (or National Monument, still not sure why), we found ourselves surrounded by white hills. If you took note of the fact that they had to use a snow plow to clear the road and parking lots, and blurred your eyes a bit, you would think we were back home in snowy Indiana.
But so much better.
It was a little breezy and a little chilly, it is January after all, but we didn't complain.
We waxed our sleds, hiked to the top of a dune, and made our way down.
