Happy Easter!

The girlies enjoyed their egg hunt. They found jelly beans, a few quarters and some fairy paper dolls. And lots and lots of candy!
While we were all distracted with the egg hunt, the Del Monster found some Peeps!

Mmmm! They are good!

After church, there were more Easter baskets.

There was Easter cake from Grandma. There was lamb and basket, both very, very good.

Some playing with Great Grandma. Mikey loves to steal her cane.

Deli also discovered Deviled eggs. Almost as good as the Peeps.
Almost.

The other stage

Soon after the babies begin to crawl, they begin to explore. They go all over and get into everything.

The big draw for all my kidlets has been the onions and potatoes. What is it about onions and potatoes that taste and feel so good? The papery skin you can peel and crush? The mesh bag you can smoosh in your hands and suck on?

The potato that is so sweet and cool? So soothing to the teething gums?
I don't know how many times I've cooked with potatoes that have teeth marks all over them. As if they've been attacked by a rabid hamster. Or the Pickle.

Mmmmmmm, good.
On a side note, the garlic is also tasty. The Pickle was crawling around working something in his mouth, so I stopped him to see what it was. He saw me coming at him and, ptuey! spit out a chewed up piece of garlic! That clove was clean and sucked dry. And Del has not been bitten by a vampire since...

tastes as good as it looks

What is Chicken Made of?

So the girls have been really interested in where our food comes from, i.e., how things grow, where things grow, what our different foods are made of. We've been having lots of dinnertable discussions about what ham is made of, where potatoes grow and why chicken is made out of chicken and not pork. Very heady stuff.

We were talking about pork last night and I was giving way too much detail about the butchering process, but they seemed interested, so I ran with it.

Elia: What happens after they kill the pig?

Mami: They usually skin it, take out its insides and cut it into all the pieces we eat.

Josie: Do they cut the head off?

Mami: Yes.

Elia (with furrowed brow): Do they kill baby pigs for food?

Mami (thinking she is in for some trouble): Yes.

Elia: hmmmm..... I bet they're yummy.

So I guess we're not going vegetarian any time soon.

In on the Act

Mikey enjoys helping with the baby feedings. He especially enjoys helping when it's yogurt.
One for you....
One for me...

One for you....

One for me...

Sometimes, the one for me's win.

Helper

The Josie Loves to help me feed Del. And it makes me happy to let her. But we do go through double the amount of food - most of it ends up in his bib, neck and somehow down his back.

Gingerbread Cookies

Abuela gave us a Ladybug subscription and this issue talks about Swedish Pepper Cookies (gingerbread). We thought we'd give it a try. It was a finger, knife, and spoon lickin' good time! Three days later my floors and table and kitchen are still sticky... ah, Christmas.

First Bites

Deli has been more and more interested in food. Yesterday he had a few bites of Mami's tomato soup. He really like it... until the chile hit. Sometimes I forget that my food's too hot for babies.
