New babies in the house

We have expanded our family by three!  If they are all girls, that is.
A good friend of ours hatched eggs from her hens and let us take a few little chicklets.  Aren't they sweet?  They have been prompting a lot of "It's so fluffy!" re-enactments.

We are deciding on names.  The Papi and I will have veto power.

So far we have:  Harry, Hermione and Ron
or Harry, Peaky, and Cinnamon
or Harry, Blacky and Stinky-butt.

Hmmmm, which names to choose....  I'm not positive, but I think Harry might be a front runner.

They are super cute, and super fluffy, and super loud.  So loud!  We have them in the bathroom at the moment and were a little concerned as to whether they would keep us up all night.  We didn't have too long to wonder, they fell asleep and we stood there gazing at their sweet little sleepy poofyness.  They really are cute.

Are we excited to have chicks?  Yes!  Are we going to take good care of them?  Yes!  Are we ready for chicks?  Heck no.  Are we allowed to have chicks in Chesterton?  Technically no, pero más vale pedir perdón que permiso, right?  I was told that you need a quarter of an acre, or they need to be a 4-H project.  So there you go.

We are super excited, there has been much discussion as to their cuteness, their names, if they will be boys or girls, how we will kill any that turn out to be boys, you know, that kind of thing.  I described swinging the rooster by its neck until it snaps or chopping it's head off.  Josie was thoroughly disgusted while Del thought the whole process would be "totally awesome".  Mental note: watch that boy around the chicks.

Of course we had to start a chicken journal.

Elia, the star journal keeper is taking care of those details.
Now we just need to fashion a coop!  We've got a couple months 'till they need one of those, right?  Right?!!  Right?  Please say yes.

He is looking at her, adoring, young and handsome. She is laughing and in love, so sweet and teeny and cute. They were so young.

My mom posted this as her picture on facebook and I thought it was just the sweetest, so I stole it. Okay, she sent it to me. But I put it on my blog first. It simply makes me happy to look at the two of them.  What makes it cuter is that they are wearing matching shirts.  I think she made them, am I right, Mom?

Right now we just pressed play on The Frisco Kid. I have a vague memory of watching it as a child in the living room with the family. I have no memory as to what it was about or if it was any good, but I have a sharp memory of Dad, in paroxysms of laughter, tears running down his face. With each new gag and one liner, Dad, in his chair, would reach greater levels of hilarity. So when I saw the Frisco Kid on our library's "just in" shelf I had to grab it. Here's hoping it's good. Or at least watchable. Or OK.

You know what's good? The picture above and the two people in it. Good.

Rain

So I step outside to take a picture of the kids playing in the rain, and I hear:
"Josie! Josie! Let's play Singing in the Rain! Mikey will be the prince, and you will be Aunt Kathy!"

The Watershed

Went out and did a little kite flying,
a little walking, looking at nature, dipping our feet in the creek.

Phew! All that fun makes a midget thirsty!

Lonely Hearts Club Band

So the girls were playing pic-nic in the porch and the dictator, I mean Elia, was commanding her subjects around. Do this, do that, wait here, pour me some tea, sit in that spot...

Something caught my ear, though. Did she just say that? There it goes again! Yes, yes, she Did just say that.

"Josie, don't pour the tea yet, we have to wait for Grandma and Sgt. Pepper."

Happy Easter!

The girlies enjoyed their egg hunt. They found jelly beans, a few quarters and some fairy paper dolls. And lots and lots of candy!
While we were all distracted with the egg hunt, the Del Monster found some Peeps!

Mmmm! They are good!

After church, there were more Easter baskets.

There was Easter cake from Grandma. There was lamb and basket, both very, very good.

Some playing with Great Grandma. Mikey loves to steal her cane.

Deli also discovered Deviled eggs. Almost as good as the Peeps.
Almost.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

Our leprechaun had a little trouble making her way over the water... something about night blindness, couldn't see the way, trouble with snakes, I don't know. anyway... she arrived in time for spring. Happy Saint Patrick's Day to all of you.

More birthday fun

We had a little party with Grandma & Grandpa and Great Grandma & Great Grandpa K. There was cake, ice cream and some noisy toys.
Two!

The powertool/construction kit. Mikey wouldn't try the tool belt on then, but he wears it all the time now.

The construction worker. Good look, no?

two!

We recently had a birthday in livo land. The Mikey turned a big two! There were birthday pancakes and some presents from Abuela on his big day. He now tells everybody that he is "three". He likes to get ahead, that one does.
There will be more pictures to come...
and... to all you spanish speakers, I apologize for turning into some kind of crazed Spaniard. What is up with my accent?!

The other stage

Soon after the babies begin to crawl, they begin to explore. They go all over and get into everything.

The big draw for all my kidlets has been the onions and potatoes. What is it about onions and potatoes that taste and feel so good? The papery skin you can peel and crush? The mesh bag you can smoosh in your hands and suck on?

The potato that is so sweet and cool? So soothing to the teething gums?
I don't know how many times I've cooked with potatoes that have teeth marks all over them. As if they've been attacked by a rabid hamster. Or the Pickle.

Mmmmmmm, good.
On a side note, the garlic is also tasty. The Pickle was crawling around working something in his mouth, so I stopped him to see what it was. He saw me coming at him and, ptuey! spit out a chewed up piece of garlic! That clove was clean and sucked dry. And Del has not been bitten by a vampire since...

Bang-ing

Papi was working on some trim and things in the kitchen and took out the dishwasher to get into a small space. The Mikey was a very big helper with the hammering. Or as he calls it Bang-Ing!

We are big believers in safety. Nothing but the best work boots, safety goggles and gloves for our little workers...

Ash Wednesday - or - Knock, Knock!

So we went to Ash Wednesday service. The kids were pretty good. Except. During one of the more prayerful, silent, meditative, solemn moments a little voice pipes up, "KNOCK, KNOCK!". And another little voice answers, "WHO'S THERE?!". It was a proud moment. Even though I was sitting between the two little boogers, I pretended they weren't mine.

This Purse

This purse eats with Elia, sleeps with Elia, goes to church with Elia, goes to the library with Elia, is stuffed with all the essentials a girl might need. Chapstick, tissues, a hanky, legos, a flip flop, pony tail holders, mittens, pens and paper. Oh! And a library card. This purse is very, very important.
Thank you Aunt Katie.

Helping

Helping out with the plumbing... hey big guy, pass me that drill. Yeah, that one.

Wait. You want me to attach the what to the who, now?
